ABOUT
Natalie is a British artist living near Wimbledon in South West London. She paints in oils and pastel. Her aim is to create atmospheric paintings, based on honest observation, conveying a connection to a place she has recently visited. Nature is her primary guide. Daily dog walks are a constant inspiration for painting subjects on Wimbledon Common.
She sketches and paints as much as possible from life, "en plein air," and returns to the studio to compose larger paintings in oil and pastel, relying on recent sketches, photos, memory and notes.
Instead of going to art school, she decided to study Art History and architecture at university (The Univeristy of East Anglia). Having worked full time for the NHS for many years, in 2023 she finally reduced her working hours substantially in order to focus more on her love of painting.
She is mainly self-taught in drawing and painting, but has attended many courses over the years with experts at established Art Schools and Centres. She continues to be aided by books, podcasts, the internet, fellow artists, trial, error, patience and practice and more practice! Paint miles are slowly being collected.
She takes inspiration from many artists, the main ones being the impressionists/post-impressionists, the Scottish Colourists, Seago and Singer Sargent. A modern inspirational hero is the late Ken Howard.
She is married and lives in South West London near Wimbledon Common. She has been selected on a number of occasions to exhibit at the Mall Galleries (RBA, NEAC and Pastel Society), and has also had a painting accepted for the RA summer exhibition.

A favourite quote:

“The most precious thing we have as painters is our own language.
It needn’t be revolutionary, but it must be personal to you and then it will be unique and precious.”
